Passionate About Inspiring Others
Dr. LaQuita Jones is a board-certified pediatric oncologist who specializes in hematologic malignancies (blood cancers), physician-scientist, and mentor whose life’s work bridges faith, medicine, science, and representation. As a first-generation college graduate and the first doctor in her family, Dr. Jones has carved a trailblazing path in medicine with humility, strength, and unwavering purpose.
She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology/Pre-Medicine, graduating with honors, followed by her Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Jones continued her training with a pediatric residency, followed by a pediatric hematology/oncology fellowship. Upon completing her training, she joined the faculty at her current institution, becoming part of the hematologic malignancies program and leukemia/lymphoma team.

Her passion and compassion for patients and families dealing with cancer, drives her research.
Throughout her academic and professional journey, Dr. Jones has consistently broken barriers. She became the first Black oncologist at her institution, the first Black physician-scientist at her institution to receive a prestigious NIH career development award, and has maintained continuous research funding since 2017. Her dedication and groundbreaking work in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) have earned her numerous accolades, including awards from the National Cancer Institute, the St. Baldrick's Foundation, the V Foundation, and Keystone Symposia. In 2023, she was honored as one of the Cincinnati Business Courier's "Forty Under 40."
As the principal investigator for the Jones laboratory, her group’s research focuses on novel therapeutics and mechanisms of drug resistance in AML, with a particular emphasis on resistance to targeted therapies in FLT3-mutant AML, resistance to hypomethylating agents in pediatric and young adult AML, and pharmacoequity in relapsed/refractory B-ALL. Her passion and compassion for patients and families dealing with cancer, drives her research. She hopes that her work will help shape the future of childhood cancer treatment with a focus on both innovation and accessibility.
In 2025, Dr. Jones was promoted to Associate Professor and in this role, she continues to impact clinical care, research, and mentorship on a national level.
Dr. Jones is not only a nationally recognized leader in pediatric oncology research, but also a compassionate communicator and advocate for families navigating cancer. She has a unique gift for breaking down complex medical information in ways families can understand—offering clarity and comfort during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
In addition to her professional passions, Dr. Jones is passionate about nurturing the spiritual, emotional, and professional resilience of the next generation.physicians and scientists.
Having navigated the challenges of being a trailblazer, she desires to play a pivotal role in equipping those who desire a career in medicine and science, making the road easier and more sustainable for others. Through her mentorship program, Dr. Jones provides guidance and community for aspiring and early-career healthcare professionals, especially those who are first-generation or underrepresented in medicine.
